I have a Ford Expedition with the tow package how can reprogram the engine for better gas mileage?

2005 Ford Expedition with tow package, not looking to tow anything. Need to save gas.|||Often a tow package includes a different gear ratio at the axle and that may have a negative effect on gas mileage. The only way to fix this is to have the axle rebuilt or completely replaced. Sometimes programmers will have a mode for better mileage as well. Both of these options are rather expensive and might improve your mileage 2-3 mpg, it would be years before you would actually pay for this with the savings on gas. If you really want to save on gas you'd be better off driving almost anything other than an expedition.|||Look for a programmer I鈥檓 sure there are some available for your expedition, programmers offer you a few settings depending on the one you decide on. One of the settings is fuel economy(most programmers) Also look into getting a cold air intake kit and a exhaust system. If both are done right they will improve gas milage as well.|||With car manufacturers attempting to get the best mileage possible out of their vehicles to meet government mandates, I seriously doubt it can be improved on. Engineers have designed it to be the most efficient it can be.

You can improve the performance, but gas mileage will suffer. And IMHO, cold air intake is baloney as are most "performance chips". Most I said. You may get 2 or 3 hp, but no gas mileage improvement.

If you need to save gas, get a smaller car. I did.
