How can I make a Ford Escort fuel flexible?

I have a '98 Ford Escort and the engine's shot. We're looking at possiblity of replacing the engine. Since the new engine would be out in the open and everything before putting it in, how difficult would it be to make the new engine fuel flexible before installing it? How expensive would it be to do this and where can I find out information on how?|||Ethanol gives you significantly worse gas mileage than regular gas. It's not worth it.
