How many miles can a ford escort have before it will die out?

I am looking into buying a new car and I found one and it's perfect. It just has 180,000 miles. It is a 1995 Ford Escort.Gets 36 mph.I just don't want to buy it and how the engine die out or the transmission decide to go all weird on me on my way to college.|||Soon if you don't have the timing belt replaced, this is the biggest problem with high mile escorts, Around $100 - $150 for a timing belt replacement, trans will last a wile if mantained regular.|||My little 1995 escort is at 185,000 miles and now it needs a head gasket. I was hoping it would hit 200,000 before it died. I can't see paying the $800-$1,000 to replace the head gasket on such an old car. It's still running great but not for much longer if I don't get it fixed.

|||Well it depends on how well the vehicle was maintained over the years if it has been worked on properly and the fluids have been changed the tune up done on time the timing belt changed and that you keep up the maintenance you should be ok for another 80-100,000 miles one concern with that many miles and this goes back to how the car was taken care of and driven is the head gasket. So have a mechanic look it over first. Good luck.|||my buddy and me once owned a '92 escort that we did zero mainainance on. It was 12yrs old and had 270k miles on it and ran great. It died because it was vandalized very badly.
