What are the character differences between Ford enthusiasts and Holden enthusiasts in Australia?

The rivalry between Holden and Ford is apparently a tradition in Australia. The two cars are incredibly similar though, at least for someone who has grown up in Europe, like me (I mean, come on, take a huge, generic car with a trailer hitch and a V8, and it could easily qualify as either brand).

What makes a Ford person, and what makes a Holden person, in Australia?

We know there are Elvis people and Beatles people (the former being more soulful, the latter more intellectual, if my intuition is anything to go by).

Any theories?|||When the rivalry occurred was when the makes were vastly different and was generally based on engine size and performance. The major comp between the 2 is the Bathurst 1000 race. No different to supporting different teams in football. It's all competition.|||Also a tradition in NZ. Depends on what you are brought up with

Bathhurst tells the story,V8 supercars, 161 laps(over 6k per lap), This year top 10 finishers, Holden 9, Ford 1. Check that stats to see which is better HOLDEN

They are not huge or generic and ford = Driver Returns on Foot|||the main reason for this is basically what the child is born into. for example many families in queensland own fords, as dick johnson would say "queensland loves a ford" however in ares such as NSW or victoria, they seem much more holden orientated.|||I think you would find "higher" class people (if i can say this) would be more likely to support Ford. Therefore more people support Holden.

Holden are more about the V8 where as Ford has really developed the V6 to be a better engine.|||Fords have a sharper look

Holdens have a more rounded look

I go for holden|||That you should ask the people in Australia, for me I don't see any reason why they do this.
