What should be the first modification to my 1989 ford mustang?

i just purchased a 1989 ford mustang and i am looking to make a first modification to it. i am looking for something fairly easy that i can do myself that i can do with normal tools. it already has bbk headers, bbk throttle body, bbk tb spacer, cold air intake, and pipes. So what can i now do to it that is fairly easy to do that will be on the cheaper side?|||Couple different ways to tackle this question. Easiest biggest mod you could do yourself would be a Nitrous oxide kit. Biggest bang for the buck and you could install it in about 4-6 hours. If you want to go the all motor way I strongly suggest 3.73 gears. You would not be able to install your self but you would notice the second biggest difference next to the bottle(NOS).

Mass air meter is an easy 5-10 horsepower I recommend C%26amp;L 73mm, Oil change to synthetics like many have sugested, K%26amp;N filter. Bump timing to 14 degrees. Almost forgot pullys.

Do not go for a dyno tune until you change atleast heads and intake and injectors. 5.0's don't pick up much more HP from a dyno tune when they are pretty close to stock.

Check out CAfords.com

Stangnet.com

corral.net

All there sites have great info and starting points.

P.S. My experince involves a 93 convertible with a B%26amp;G turbo kit that put down 525 HP to the wheels on the stock short block.

I put down 295 NA

Good Luck|||I agree with bignose except I would not do the nitrous. I personally am just not a fan of nitrous, I am more into power adders that are there every time you hit the gas. As far as simple things that you can do, you are running out of options. You car has most of the "simple" upgrades. You can do some underdrive pulleys, and put some drag radial tires on the rear wheels. All the power in the world is worthless unless you can transfer it to the street.|||well if you have a steady hand you could get some dark window tint for your car.. or for a couple hundred bucks buy a mass air system.. or you could depending on style get rid of luggage rack.. there are many things u can do my suggestion would be to buy a mustang magazine and look at stuff u want for your car and then go from there! anyways good luck|||It's like this....you can't get it into your motor if you can't get it out! In order for all the mods that you have to work properly you must have a tuned highflow exhaust system....headers flowing into a stock exhaust system become useless.....|||change to a good set of hot spark plugs in it so it can burn the gas a lot better, stock ignition wasn't much on those, also a good Bosch spark plug will help it a lot,use a good synthetic oil in it like Mobil one ,and that will also help it,all these things are basically cheap power gains and they will help it a lot,my nephew has one and were all the time doing up grades to it,its pretty strong for what it is,good luck with it.|||id do a brake upgrade, with all that power you need something to get you stopped faster. id go with a nice set of drilled and slotted rotors with some semi met. pads

im running those brakes on my intrepid and couldnt be happier with the performance i get out of them|||Sell it and get a chevy!|||switch to synthetic oils.. get it reprogrammed and dynotuned..|||brakes, suspension, or ignition. and tires.

sounds like a beast car. good job.
