How many miles would a Ford Taurus be expected to last?

I have been looking to pay cash for a second car to use for commuting, and was seriously considering a Ford Taurus.

I looked at several in including a 98,99, and 02.

The 98 has the least miles with 69k, the 99k has 100k and the 98 has 80k. However the 99 has only been a company vehicle and has a very well maintained maintenance record.

How can I determine which, if any of these is a good buy?|||The best buy is the car that is in the best mechanical condition that has the lowest price. Mileage is irrelevant. Once you get into high mileage cars, the maintenance costs will all be the same. They will all need occasional repairs, none of them any less than the other.

So buy the car that is the cheapest, that has the best maintenance record and is in the best physical condition.|||My 1997 Taurus runs great still, 299,925 miles to date. Most I have seen personally was a 98 Sable with 450K in Fallon, Nevada, Still ran great.

|||it depends. I have worked on customer's Taurus's that have over 175,000 miles on them. The lower the mileage the better, but it is also good to have maintenance records- that way you know truthfully how well the car has been taking care of.|||well dad's only lasted like 5k XD|||I had a 97 Ford Taurus and it lasted about 80k miles before I traded it in and got $700 bucks for it. By the time it hit 70k, the alternator went out and I had to have the ac fixed twice. I was sooo unhappy with it. If I could do it all over again, I would have picked a honda. They are such great cars in my opinion. With the way gas is going, I would try and pick something too that has good gas mileage. Before you sign the dotted line, be sure to get it checked out by a mechanic. Good luck.|||Since it has good maintenance record the 1999 is the better choice. You'll never know if the previous owner's of the other vehicles took car maintenance seriously. And this could lead to serious problems down the road.|||Ford taurus ford taurus ford taurus....... theres an old saying... theres two kinds of taurus trannys the one thats broke already or the one thats going to break. if the trans doesnt get you then it will overheat once for some stupid 5 dollar thermostat and then the head gasket will get ya. never understood why they sold so many of those pieces of %$%26amp;#!!!! I know quite a few ex taurus owners common feeling never again. but then again ive also known a few who have never had a problem. go figure???|||depends on how well the car is taken car of. my 2000 has 210,000 and still running strong. i would go with the company car because it has been taken car of by the dealerships|||I would say 130-150K would be a safe amount to expect. Remember it is not the age of the vehicle but the miles that matter. Highway miles are better than city. The company vehicle may have been abused by many drivers.|||A Ford Taurus is never a good buy. Those cars are horrible. If you want a car for commute, get a 4 cylinder all Ford T's are 6 cylinder and with gas at 3.30 a gallon, that's rough.|||You would be lucky to hit 100k in a Taurus
